My sincere condolences on this sad passing. I remember Pierre so well for all the great and kind things many others have already shared about him. Some of you will recall our early days training together and burning though those exceptional early shared moments on the aikido mats. There is a number of quite funny story to share about his first black belt and following seminars, which we can save to recall until we next meet and reflect on our rich friendships and those who have passed.

It is with deep sadness that Bushinkan Dojo acknowledges the passing of one of our former students, Pierre Senecal. Pierre trained at the Bushinkan Dojo in Trenton, Ontario, under Jim Arsenault Sensei, where he demonstrated dedication, perseverance, and respect for the art. Through his commitment to training, Pierre attained the rank of 2nd Degree Black Belt, a significant achievement that reflected both his skill and character. Pierre was part of the Bushinkan family, and the connections forged through training remain long after time on the mats ends. His passing is felt by those who trained with him and by the wider dojo community. At this difficult time, our thoughts and sincere condolences are with Pierre’s family, friends, and loved ones. We hope they find comfort and strength in the memories they shared with him. For those who would like to read more or leave a message of remembrance, you can find Pierre’s memorial page here: 👉 https://residencemariesoleilphaneuf.com/en/addti/pierre-senecal/ Pierre will be remembered with respect.

Heartfelt condolences to Madeleine, Pierre’s beloved mother, to Lise, his cherished sister and to the Senecal family on their loss. Pierre was my good friend but he was much more. He had been a professional soldier, travelling Canada and involved in operations of national significance. He later became a veteran, proud of his service. Pierre held a black belt in Aikido and travelled to Japan to hone his expertise. He was also an ardent teacher, who excelled in passing on his knowledge and love of Aikido. A man of parts, Pierre was a hiker, a daily walker and a chess player. He was trilingual. He was fluent in his native French and spoke English with a charming French Canadian accent. Along the way, he had somehow become fluent in American sign language. Pierre had a natural affinity for children. They gravitated to him and loved being in his company. Pierre was taken from us far too soon. I am richer for having known him and poorer for his passing.
